Wedding Venues in Saint Augustine, Florida — A Photographer's Guide

The same advice we give every couple who sits down with us.

A Photographer's Guide to Wedding Venues in Saint Augustine, Florida

We've photographed over 600 weddings across St. Augustine and North Florida. The first question we ask every couple is: what vibe are you going for? Modern? Historic? Rustic? Those answers usually tell us where they're going to end up. If they love historic architecture, it's definitely Treasury or Lightner. If they want something raw and downtown — exposed brick, industrial ceilings — the White Room is perfect for that. And sometimes people want a giant oak tree but they also want to be downtown, and they think that sounds crazy, but that's exactly what the Oldest House has.

From there, two more things narrow down almost every decision: how many guests you're having, and how involved you want to be in the planning. This guide is built around that framework.

How to use this guide: Start with vibe — what feeling do you want when you walk in? Then check guest count to make sure the space fits your crowd. Finally, decide how involved you want to be in the planning. Each section below addresses one of those filters, and the reference table at the bottom lets you compare everything side by side.

Historic & Downtown Venues

St. Augustine is the oldest city in the country, and nowhere does that history show up more dramatically than in its downtown venues. Spanish colonial architecture, centuries-old stone, soaring ceilings — the backdrop does a lot of the work for you here.

The Treasury on the Plaza is unique because of the marble columns — everybody knows them for the columns. But there's so much more: the vault at the end of the room where they set up the bar, getting-ready suites for the bridal parties, a separate space for cocktail hour so guests have somewhere to go while the room flips from ceremony to reception. There's the elevator bank, a second floor with a giant window, loggias behind the building. The White Room sits right on the waterfront with sweeping views of the Matanzas Bay. The Lightner Museum is the most dramatic interior in the city: a converted Gilded Age hotel with a grand ballroom and indoor pool that becomes a cocktail space. Casa Monica Hotel is full-service luxury in a Moorish Revival building. Flagler College turns the whole campus into a backdrop — Ponce de León Hall, the rotunda, the courtyard.

The Heavy Hitters

Every downtown venue offers unique photo opportunities — each space is so different that it really comes down to each couple's vision for their wedding day. For most downtown couples, the decision lands on Treasury, White Room, or Lightner. Visit all three at ceremony time before committing — the light and energy shift significantly throughout the day.

One thing couples consistently tell us about downtown weddings: everything is walkable. Families fly in, check into a hotel on St. George Street, and never touch their car again — dinner, the ceremony, after-party at a wine bar, all on foot. That's a rare thing for a wedding, and it's something only a handful of cities can offer.

Rustic & Country Venues

Fifteen minutes from downtown, the city gives way to oak canopy, open pasture, and that particular golden-hour light that makes every photo look like a painting. A lot of couples want more freedom in how their wedding day works — and that's exactly what the rustic venues give you.

Tringali Barn and Kelly Farms come with fewer rules: you can have whatever entertainment you want, bring whatever caterer you want, whatever bar service you want. Most of these venues don't have noise ordinances, so you can build a celebration that's very unique to you and your crowd. They can start earlier, go later, and they have tons of parking — something a lot of downtown venues simply don't offer. The Manor at 12 Oaks Farm bridges the gap between rustic and polished, with a renovated barn and partial coordination included.

When you rent a space like Tringali, it's yours — you can do whatever you want. The upside is total flexibility. The trade-off is that you're building the day from scratch, so budget extra time and consider hiring a planner if you go this route.

Robert and Riley chose Tringali because they wanted to customize every detail — their own caterer, a custom bar package, a cigar roller, and a party that went well past sunset. No permission slips, no preferred vendor lists. That's the kind of freedom a blank canvas venue gives you.

Beach & Coastal Venues

Beach wedding vibes are just different. They're usually a little more casual — things might start a few minutes later than they're supposed to, and for couples who just want a relaxed, easygoing day, a beach wedding is the way to go. You never know exactly what you're going to get: it could be windy, warmer, cooler — but you're always going to get that beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Embassy Suites St. Augustine Beach is the most full-service oceanfront option — ceremony on the beach, reception in the ballroom, rooms for your guests, all coordinated by the venue. Serenata Beach Club is a private club with ocean access and a more intimate setting. Guy Harvey Resort is a laid-back oceanfront option with that relaxed Florida coastal feel.

If you're planning a ceremony directly on the beach rather than at a venue, you'll need a permit from St. Johns County. The process is straightforward but takes time — plan at least 30 days ahead. See our St. Augustine wedding permits guide for the full walkthrough.

Shelby, one of our brides from last year, told us the thing she loved most was feeling connected to the place itself — the breeze, the sound of the waves, the sun going down behind her. And unlike a ballroom, it's somewhere she can come back to whenever she wants.

How Big Is the Party?

If a couple is planning on 30 guests, we're going to suggest different venues than if they're having 200. The size of the wedding tells us a lot — budget, catering, what the day actually feels like. And if you ask someone "is your wedding large or small?" that's subjective. What's large to one couple might not be large to another. So when we ask about guest count, we're trying to place you at a venue that matches your vibe, matches your size, and provides the amenities that matter most — whether that's parking, access to your hotel, or a rooftop. There are a lot of rooftop options in St. Augustine, and we want to put you at the one that's the right fit.

Before you fall in love with a space, make sure it fits your crowd in both directions. An intimate ceremony in a 300-person ballroom can feel cold. A 200-person reception in a space meant for 80 is stressful for everyone.

Under 50 Guests

This is where St. Augustine really shines. The city is full of intimate spaces — courtyards, historic inns, small gardens — that feel purpose-built for micro weddings and elopements. 9 Aviles is a tucked-away courtyard that photographs beautifully with under 30 guests. The bed and breakfast venues — St. Francis Inn, Casa de Solana, Bayfront Marin House — are naturals for small celebrations, often with packages that include everything from ceremony to room block. For a true elopement, St. Augustine Beach with a permit and a few close people is hard to beat.

50 to 150 Guests

The sweet spot for most of the St. Augustine historic district venues. The Treasury, The White Room, Lightner, Flagler College — all are ideal at this size. You get the grandeur of the space without rattling around in it. Most of the rustic barn venues also shine at this count: Tringali Barn and Kelly Farms both handle 100–150 guests comfortably.

150+ Guests

Your options narrow. The Treasury can push to 300, and Embassy Suites has the ballroom capacity for large receptions. Casa Monica and the Renaissance St. Augustine handle big groups well with full hotel infrastructure. If you're committed to a downtown space for a large wedding, book early — these dates go fast, and you'll be competing with other couples who need the same footprint.

How Involved Do You Want to Be?

This is the question couples don't think to ask until they're deep in the planning process. And a lot of couples are surprised by the answer once they start looking. Some venues are far more equipped than people expect — if you don't want to do a lot of decor, we'll suggest very different venues than if you have a design-heavy vision. Somewhere like 9 Aviles — you don't have to bring much at all. But there are venues that are just that: a blank canvas, and you have to bring everything. Figuring out where you land on this spectrum early will save you a lot of stress.

Turn-Key: Show Up and It's Handled

These venues include coordination, preferred vendor relationships, and day-of management as part of their packages. You're paying more, but you're buying peace of mind. Embassy Suites, Casa Monica, Guy Harvey Resort, and most hotel venues fall here. So do smaller but full-service options like Cedar House Inn and St. Francis Inn, which are especially good for couples who want an intimate wedding without the planning overhead. The White Room and Palencia Club also lean turn-key, with on-site coordinators who know the venue cold.

Blank Canvas: Full Creative Control

These venues rent you the space and step back. You bring every vendor, make every decision, and build the day from scratch. Tringali Barn, 9 Aviles, Cathedral Basilica, and most of the historic state parks and city spaces are in this category. The upside is total flexibility — no preferred vendor lists, no in-house catering markup, no package you have to fit into. The downside is that you're running a small event production company in addition to getting married. Budget extra time, and hire a good planner if you go this route.

Somewhere in Between

Most couples end up here, and honestly, so do most of our favorite venues. Lightner Museum, Flagler College, The Treasury, and Tringali's newer sister venues offer the space and infrastructure but let you bring your own vendors for most things. You get the best of both worlds — a distinctive setting with some structural support — but you'll still need to be involved and organized. This is where a day-of coordinator (separate from the venue) pays for itself many times over.
