Amore Wedding Chapel is an intimate indoor ceremony space tucked inside Suite 116 of the Lightner building at 75 King Street in downtown St. Augustine. It's in the same building as the Lightner Museum — same address, different operation. The chapel accommodates up to 50 guests and is operated by The Wedding Authority, the same team that manages the exterior Lightner Museum Courtyard ceremonies next door.

The chapel has a distinct, classic feel: stained glass windows, candelabras, traditional décor, and a scale that keeps the ceremony intimate and close. It's a genuine indoor chapel experience — not a converted ballroom or a neutral event room. Standard packages include ceremony use, a director, greenery and candelabras, and traditional wedding music. You can bring your own officiant or use their minister/notary referrals.

Amore is especially popular as a weather backup for couples originally planning outdoor courtyard ceremonies, and as a standalone choice for couples who specifically want the stained glass chapel aesthetic with a small, close guest list. The exterior Lightner Museum Courtyard — with the koi pond and stone bridge — is steps away for post-ceremony portraits.

Why We Love Photographing at Amore

Small ceremonies are some of our favorite work to photograph. When a couple has 20 or 30 guests instead of 200, the emotional temperature in the room is completely different — everyone is right there, close, and invested. There's nowhere to hide from the joy. The stained glass windows at Amore give us warm, directional light that's genuinely beautiful without any artificial setup, and the intimate scale means we're close to every moment that matters.

The practical advantage is real too: with 50 guests maximum, we can move through the space freely, work the aisle without fighting for angles, and spend time on details and expressions rather than logistics. And the moment the ceremony ends, the exterior Lightner Museum Courtyard is right outside — a completely different visual environment, with the koi pond, stone bridge, and lush gardens, that gives the album real variety from a single address.

The Lightner Complex — Understanding Your Options

Amore Wedding Chapel is one of four distinct wedding and photography experiences at 75 King Street. Here's how they fit together:

  • Amore Wedding Chapel (this page) — indoor chapel, Suite 116, up to 50 guests. Stained glass, candelabras, intimate. Operated by The Wedding Authority.
  • Lightner Museum Courtyard Ceremonies — outdoor ceremony space with the koi pond, stone bridge, and gardens, up to 100 guests. Also operated by The Wedding Authority. Amore Chapel is the weather backup.
  • Lightner Museum Wedding Venue — interior courtyard and Grand Ballroom inside the museum, up to 250 guests. A completely separate operation, booked directly through the museum.
  • Lightner Museum Courtyard (portraits/proposals) — the exterior courtyard for photography sessions and proposals without a ceremony. Requires a separate photography permit.

If you're deciding between the courtyard ceremony and the chapel, the main differences are scale (100 vs 50 guests), setting (outdoor garden vs indoor chapel), and weather dependency (outdoor vs rain-proof). Many couples book both and let the forecast decide on the day.

Best Photo Locations

Small chapel, big variety — especially once you step outside:

Stained Glass Altar

The chapel's stained glass windows create warm, golden light that wraps around couples at the altar. It's the defining shot here — rich color, classic chapel composition, completely unlike anything you'd get outdoors.

The Aisle

The intimate scale of the chapel makes aisle shots intimate and immediate. With 50 guests maximum, there's no sea of heads between us and the altar — everyone is close, emotional, and in the frame naturally.

Interior Details & Close-Ups

Candelabras, floral greenery, and the chapel's classic décor create beautiful detail shots. Small ceremonies mean we can focus on close-up, intimate moments — expressions, hands, tears — without the distance that larger venues require.

Exterior Entrance via Lightner Courtyard

The building entrance and the exterior Lightner Museum Courtyard (just outside) are perfect for departure shots, post-ceremony portraits, and bell-ringing moments. The outdoor courtyard with the koi pond is steps away for immediate location contrast.

Planning Your Timeline

We don't publish generic timelines. They're useless without knowing your date. Here's why:

December 5:30 PM sunset
June 8:30 PM sunset

A 5pm ceremony works great in summer. In winter, it means dark portraits. Your timeline must match your actual date and what matters most to you.

Lighting & Golden Hour

Fully indoor chapel — light quality depends on the stained glass windows rather than time of day. Any time works well. Post-ceremony courtyard portraits benefit from golden hour (1 hour before sunset).

Time for Photos

We recommend 30-45 minutes for portraits at Amore Wedding Chapel, covering the chapel interior and exterior Lightner courtyard.

Timeline Strategies

Sunset Portraits

Want golden hour magic? We work backwards from sunset. End the ceremony 60-90 minutes before. That gives time for family photos, couple portraits, and the best light.

Brunch or Daytime

Morning ceremonies and daytime receptions mean good natural light all day. Great for summer when afternoons get warm.

Venue Timing Notes

  • Indoor ceremony only — no outdoor option at this space
  • One hour ceremony window included with standard packages

Photography Tips for Amore Wedding Chapel

What we've learned from photographing here:

Work With the Stained Glass Light

The stained glass windows are the chapel's signature. Position the couple facing the windows or at a slight angle to catch the warm, colored light on their faces. It's directional and gorgeous — you don't need flash.

Embrace the Tight Space

Small chapels reward close-in shooting. Wide-angle distortion at the edges gets worse the wider you go — a 35mm or 50mm lens at the back of the aisle keeps proportions natural and the compression flattering.

Lean Into Intimacy

With 50 guests maximum, the emotional proximity is the story. Focus on close-up expressions, quiet moments, parents' reactions — the intimacy is the advantage. This isn't a venue for dramatic wide shots; it's a venue for connection.

Plan the Courtyard Extension

Build 30-45 minutes after the ceremony for portraits in the exterior courtyard. The contrast between the intimate chapel interior and the open-air koi pond garden gives you a genuinely diverse set of images from a single location.
