If you want a location that's truly unlike any other, this is it. Imagine exchanging vows with giraffes in the background, taking portraits in front of a Mayan temple with jaguars nearby, or dancing under the stars near exotic wildlife. It's an experience your guests will never forget.

The property offers multiple unique spaces for both your service and celebration, each with its own character. From the dramatic Range of the Jaguar with its ancient temple architecture to the serene Asian Bamboo landscape, there's a setting to match every couple's vision.

Event Spaces:

  • Giraffe Overlook & Savanna Blooms: Vows with giraffes in the background
  • Range of the Jaguar: Mayan temple, fountain, jaguars, howler monkeys, and anteaters on exhibit
  • Trout River Plaza: Waterfront space for your service and dinner
  • Asian Bamboo Landscape: Serene, lush bamboo setting
  • Land of the Tiger: After-hours only, exotic backdrop
  • Shaba Terrace & Samburu Room: Indoor/outdoor African-themed space

Why We Love Photographing Here

No two celebrations here look alike, and that's the draw for us. The Range of the Jaguar gives us a Mayan temple facade with a fountain - that's an architectural backdrop you literally cannot find anywhere else in Northeast Florida. When the jaguars decide to cooperate and move into frame, those images become the ones couples share for years.

The Asian Bamboo landscape provides a completely different feel - serene, green, and zen-like. The bamboo stays green year-round and creates a consistent, natural backdrop that works in any season. It's a great counterpoint to the more dramatic exhibit areas. And the Giraffe Overlook offers something guests never forget - an actual giraffe wandering through the background of the vows.

From a photographic standpoint, the variety of environments within walking distance is what sets this property apart. We move from tropical greenery to exotic wildlife exhibits to waterfront views at Trout River Plaza within the span of a portrait session. Each spot has its own color palette, its own light quality, and its own energy.

Best Photo Spots

Range of the Jaguar: A stunning Mayan temple backdrop with a beautiful fountain and actual jaguars, howler monkeys, and anteaters visible during your event. The ancient architecture creates dramatic portraits unlike anywhere else.

Giraffe Overlook & Savanna Blooms: Watch giraffes in the background of your vows. The elevated overlook provides stunning views of the African savanna exhibit - yes, real giraffes might photobomb your portraits.

Asian Bamboo Landscape: Lush bamboo creates a serene, zen-like atmosphere. The green backdrop is timeless and photographs beautifully in any light.

Land of the Tiger: Available for after-hours events only, this exhibit offers an exotic backdrop with tigers potentially visible during your celebration.

Trout River Plaza: Waterfront views along the Trout River with beautiful landscaped grounds. A versatile space that works for both your service and dinner.

Shaba Terrace & Samburu Room: Indoor/outdoor flexibility with African-themed decor. The covered spaces provide weather backup while maintaining the property's unique atmosphere.

Tips From Your Photographers

Wildlife Adds Magic (and Unpredictability): The residents are the star attraction, but they're also unpredictable. We'll have backup spots if your favorite creature decides to hide - flexibility is key.

After-Hours is Worth It: Evening events mean quieter grounds and potentially more activity from the wildlife. The Land of the Tiger is only available after hours and is absolutely worth considering.

Coordinate With the On-Site Team: The property has guidelines to ensure safety for all residents. We'll coordinate with their team to get amazing shots while respecting these important boundaries.

Embrace the Uniqueness: This isn't a traditional setting - that's the point! Lean into the adventure. A giraffe in your photos is something your guests will never forget.

Multiple Spaces, Many Options: The property offers numerous configurations for your vows and celebration. Tour thoroughly to find the spaces that resonate with you.

Planning Your Timeline at Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens

We don't publish generic sample timelines because they're useless without knowing your wedding date. Here's why:

December 5:30 PM sunset
June 8:30 PM sunset

A 5pm ceremony works beautifully in summer but means portraits in the dark in winter. Your timeline needs to be built around your actual date and what matters most to you.

Light at Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens

Natural light varies throughout the day. We recommend discussing specific timing based on your chosen space and time of year. Note: music curfew at Midnight (Fri/Sat), 11pm (Sun).

Time for Photos

We recommend 45-60 minutes for portraits at Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, covering the main event area, gathering space, and grounds.

Timeline Strategies

Sunset Portraits

Want that golden hour magic? We work backwards from sunset. Ceremony ends 60-90 minutes before, giving time for family photos, couple portraits, and catching the best light.

Brunch or Daytime

Morning ceremonies and daytime receptions mean lots of beautiful natural light all day. Great for summer when afternoons can get pretty warm.
