After 15 years photographing weddings in St. Augustine, we've eaten at just about every restaurant in town. When clients ask us for food recommendations, tacos always come up—and these are the spots we send them to.
Whether you're in town for a wedding, engagement session, or family vacation, you're going to need to eat. And St. Augustine has some seriously good taco options. Here are our top five picks, tested and approved over countless late-night post-reception meals and quick lunches between shoots.
1. Burrito Works / A1A Burrito Works Late Night
This is the spot. Voted #1 Burrito by Folio Weekly, Burrito Works brings Baja-Mexican flavors with fresh ingredients and a laid-back beach vibe. The downtown location on St. George Street is perfect for grabbing a bite while exploring, and the beach location on A1A is ideal after a sunset session.
The real secret? They're open until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays—one of the only late-night food options in town. We've sent many a wedding party here after receptions end.
2. Mojo's Tacos Local Favorite
Mojo's has earned a devoted following for their fresh, flavorful Mexican-American cuisine. They're known for their innovative "double-decker" tacos—a soft tortilla wrapped around a cheese-layered hard shell. It's exactly as good as it sounds.
The signature Mojo sauce (a mild but zesty hot sauce) elevates everything. Generous portions, affordable prices, and solid options for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets make this a crowd-pleaser for groups with mixed preferences.
3. Cantina Louie Downtown
Voted the city's Best Mexican Restaurant every year since 2016, Cantina Louie is a vibrant, affordable cantina with authentic made-from-scratch street food. It's veteran-owned and has a lively atmosphere that's perfect for rehearsal dinners or group outings.
The menu is diverse—tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and weekend specials like homemade tamales and Mexican street corn. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable.
4. Osprey Tacos Anastasia Island
Located on Anastasia Boulevard, Osprey Tacos serves up made-to-order tacos, burritos, and bowls featuring locally sourced ingredients. They have solid gluten-free and vegan options.
The vibe is casual with a pet-friendly outdoor patio, and they're located next to Old Coast Ales brewery—so you can grab tacos and a local craft beer. Perfect for a low-key meal after a beach session.
5. Gringos Tacos King Street
Family-owned and opened in 2021, Gringos Tacos has quickly become a local favorite. Located on King Street (just a skip from Whetstone Chocolates—dessert sorted), they specialize in authentic flavors with a focus on quality.
Their Birria House Taco is their take on the traditional dish from the Jalisco region of Mexico, and it's worth seeking out.
Timing Tip for Wedding Guests
If you're in town for a wedding weekend, hit Burrito Works late Friday or Saturday night (they're open until 2 AM). For Sunday brunch vibes, Cantina Louie and Mojo's both open for lunch and have a more relaxed atmosphere.
