Why Bother If You're Not Going to Do It Right
We've known Tessa for over a decade and always loved working with her, so when she started Tula Rose we were so excited for her. She had a very different vision than other florists in St. Augustine — she didn't just want to do florals, she wanted to be a designer. And she's amazing at it. We've been lucky enough to hang out with Tessa outside of work; we consider her a friend. She's one of the most thoughtful and intelligent people we've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Tessa does things in her work that go unnoticed — people just think it's beautiful, which it is. That's the point: the effort disappears into the result.
Why bother doing it if you're not going to do it the right way? That's Tessa — a designer, not just a florist, who makes the hardest part look effortless.
On Her Tiptoes at the Very Top of the Ladder
We had a wedding together at the Fountain of Youth once, and Tessa and her team were building the ceremony arch — hanging sheer curtains up in the trees with floating florals. The whole thing was magical. But the ladder wasn't tall enough to reach, so Tessa was on the very tiptop of it, on her tiptoes, tying florals into place so they'd sit in exactly the perfect position. Most people would've said "it's fine." Not Tessa. It had to be perfect, even if that meant risking life and limb — literally. That sums her up.
