About Magnolia Street
Magnolia Street is one of St. Augustine's most iconic photo locations, and for good reason. The massive live oaks form a continuous canopy over the road, their branches heavy with Spanish moss that sways in the breeze. It's the quintessential Florida image that people picture when they think of the South.
What makes Magnolia Street special isn't just the trees—it's how the light plays through them. When the sun is low and comes in sideways, rays of golden light pierce through the moss and leaves, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere. And if you're lucky, you might even spot one of the neighborhood peacocks strutting by.
We've photographed countless sessions here and know exactly where to position for the best backgrounds while staying out of traffic. It's perfect for engagement sessions, family portraits, and anyone wanting that classic St. Augustine look.
Best Photo Spots
Oak Tree Canopy
The defining feature of Magnolia Street is the incredible tunnel of live oaks draped in Spanish moss. The branches reach across the road creating a natural cathedral ceiling that's absolutely stunning when light filters through.
Street-Level Portraits
Standing in the middle of the street with the oak canopy stretching into the distance behind you creates that classic St. Augustine shot everyone wants. We know the best spots to set up to minimize traffic interruptions.
Peacock Encounters
The neighborhood peacocks sometimes make surprise appearances during sessions. Keep an eye out for these colorful visitors who add an unexpected and delightful element to photos.
Best Times to Photograph
Early Morning
Beat the traffic and catch soft, diffused light filtering through the canopy. The street is quieter and you'll have more freedom to work without interruptions.
Golden Hour
When the sun is low, light comes in sideways through the trees creating dramatic rays and a warm glow that makes the Spanish moss look magical. This is when Magnolia Street really shines.
Overcast Days
The tree canopy provides natural shade, but overcast days give you even, flattering light throughout the entire street without harsh shadows.
