St. Augustine Maternity Photographer

A St. Augustine maternity photographer captures your pregnancy journey—beach sessions at golden hour, outdoor portraits in nature, or intimate studio moments.

Celebrating This Season of You

Natural, joyful portraits of this incredible milestone

As your St. Augustine maternity photographer, we believe this moment should feel like you. Not stiff, not over-posed, not trying to recreate something you saw on Pinterest. Just natural, joyful portraits that capture this incredible season you're in.

As a husband-and-wife team, we understand this milestone. We've photographed hundreds of expecting parents, and we know how to make you feel comfortable, beautiful, and celebrated. Whether you want your toes in the sand at golden hour or a quiet moment in a shady garden, we'll create images that become family heirlooms.

You're growing a human. That's worth documenting—and worth doing well.

Beach Maternity Sessions

Golden light, ocean breeze, timeless portraits

Beach sessions are our most requested maternity option—and for good reason. There's something magical about the combination of soft golden light, ocean breeze catching a flowy dress, and the timeless backdrop of sand and waves.

We photograph at St. Augustine Beach, Vilano Beach, and Crescent Beach depending on your preferences and the time of year. Each offers something slightly different, and we'll recommend the best option based on your session date and timing.

The best beach sessions happen 1-2 hours before sunset during golden hour. The light is warm and flattering, the beach is less crowded, and you get that gorgeous glow that makes these photos feel magical.

What to bring: A cover-up for between shots, hair ties for windy moments, water to stay hydrated, and maybe sandals you don't mind getting sandy.

What to Wear to the Beach

Flowy dresses and maxi gowns are perfect—they move beautifully in the breeze and create stunning silhouettes. Solid colors photograph better than busy patterns. We love neutrals (cream, white, tan) and earth tones that complement the sand and ocean. If you need dress recommendations, we're happy to share our favorite vendors.

Outdoor & Nature Sessions

Gardens, parks, and moss-draped oaks

Not everyone is a beach person—and that's perfectly fine. Some of our most beautiful maternity sessions happen in gardens, parks, and natural settings where moss-draped oaks and dappled sunlight create an entirely different mood.

Locations we love:

  • Washington Oaks Gardens State Park — Moss-covered oaks, coquina rock formations, and beautifully maintained gardens
  • Anastasia State Park — Natural, wooded trails with a coastal feel
  • Treaty Oak Park (St Francis Park) — Downtown convenient, gorgeous old oak tree as a backdrop
  • Your backyard or vacation rental — Private, meaningful, and uniquely yours

Green and natural backdrops work beautifully for maternity photography. The foliage creates depth, the shade keeps you comfortable, and the colors complement almost any outfit choice.

Downtown & Urban Sessions

Timeless architecture and cobblestone charm

Prefer architecture over nature? St. Augustine's historic downtown offers stunning backdrops that feel timeless and elegant.

St. George Street

Cobblestone streets, colorful doors, and historic architecture. Morning sessions avoid crowds and give us the street to ourselves.

Flagler College

Spanish Renaissance architecture that looks like it belongs in Europe. The exterior courtyard areas are accessible and stunning.

Lightner Museum

Gorgeous exterior facades, the inner courtyard, and surrounding gardens. Elegant and romantic.

Downtown sessions work particularly well for couples who prefer shade (helpful during Florida summers) or who love an urban, architectural aesthetic. These sessions are also easier to combine with dinner reservations or other downtown activities.

Studio Sessions

Controlled lighting, complete privacy

Not everyone wants an outdoor session—and that's perfectly okay. Studio sessions offer a controlled environment with perfect lighting, climate control, and complete privacy.

Our studio space provides a clean, timeless backdrop that puts all the focus on you and your bump. No weather worries, no strangers walking by, no wind messing with your hair. Just beautiful, intentional portraits.

Studio sessions are ideal for:

  • Mamas who prefer privacy and a more intimate setting
  • Summer sessions when Florida heat makes outdoor sessions uncomfortable
  • Rain dates or unpredictable weather
  • More artistic, editorial-style portraits
  • Combining with boudoir or intimate maternity photography

We can create soft, airy looks or more dramatic, moody portraits depending on your vision. The studio also works beautifully for newborn sessions, so your bump-to-baby photos can have a cohesive look.

When to Book Your Maternity Session

The sweet spot is 28-34 weeks

28-34 weeks is ideal

The sweet spot for maternity photos is 28-34 weeks pregnant. Your bump is beautifully visible, you're still comfortable enough to move around and try different poses, and you've got that pregnancy glow.

Book 4-6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and give us time to plan your session. This is especially important during peak season (October through May in Florida).

That said, we can accommodate earlier or later sessions and urgent bookings when space allows. If you're past 34 weeks, don't assume you've missed your window—reach out and we'll make it work.

Consider your energy levels when scheduling. Many mamas find that late afternoon sessions during golden hour work best—you've had time to rest during the day, and the light is gorgeous.

What to Wear to Your Maternity Session

Feel confident and photograph beautifully

Embrace Form-Fitting

Fitted dresses and tops that hug your bump show off your beautiful shape. Flowy fabrics work too, especially when paired with a defining waist or band.

Solid Colors Photograph Best

Soft, muted tones like cream, blush, sage, and dusty blue are timeless. Avoid busy patterns that can distract from you and your bump.

Consider the Location

For beach sessions, flowy maxi dresses work beautifully. Downtown settings pair well with elegant, classic pieces. We'll help you coordinate with your location.

Bring Options

We love outfit changes! Bring 2-3 options including something casual and something dressy. We can even do a simple draped fabric look if you're comfortable.

Still unsure? We send a detailed style guide and are happy to help you plan your wardrobe before the session.

"Rob and Jill are simply amazing!! My husband and I first met them for our engagement session. They made everything so relaxed and fun, it felt like we had known them for years! They knew all of the best spots around town for the perfect pictures. Fast forward to today, they have also captured our wedding, some family portraits, and our maternity photos. We can’t recommend Rob and Jill enough. Their enthusiasm is unmatched, and they are truly fantastic people!"

"Words aren't enough to express how amazing Rob was for our wedding. He is a stunning photographer and his final product speaks for itself. He knows how to command a wedding to get the shots he needs and you want and then he disappears into the background getting the shots you weren't expecting. We hired him for a half day shoot, we are non traditional and wanted to get our photos done prior to the ceremony and enjoy more time with our guests. Our wedding was in St. Augustine which he knows very well and took us to some really nice spots. It's more than the wonderful photos he takes, Rob was a great person to have at our wedding offering help with anything he could when he wasn't taking photos. He came highly recommended to us and exceeded every expectation."

"I've worked with Rob on a few projects by this point and wanted to take a minute to write a review for anyone searching for a great photographer. First, let me say that Rob's passion for photography is infectious and gets everyone excited who works with him. Then, when you see the quality of his work, you know you've picked the right photographer. His professionalism and dedication to his craft is awestrucking. Rob's vision and the way that he captures a picture and makes you feel like you are part of the moment is simply beautiful. From professional headshots, to parties, proposals, weddings, maternity photos and all of the things in between, Rob would be the perfect photographer to follow you and capture all of your beautiful moments in life."

"Rob Futrell is a fantastic photog. I highly recommend him. I have trusted him to take a range of pictures for me--professional headshots, volunteering with an animal friendly group in town. But most importantly he captured our maternity photo shoot and our newborn's announcement photo shoot beautifully. We will forever be grateful for the beautiful moments he captured. And Rob was so patient with my requests for "no cheesey" pictures. He worked with us to get action shots (non posing shots) and some great candids. These are moments we will never get back, but are captured forever. Thank you Rob! -Monica, Javi and Baby Olive"
