Washington Oaks State Park is one of our best-kept secrets for engagement photography saint augustine couples, and it's only about a 30-minute drive from the city. We've photographed so many sessions here because it gives you this incredible variety that's hard to find anywhere else - you've got these stunning formal gardens with old growth oak trees that create the most romantic canopy, plus formal rose gardens that are absolutely gorgeous. The best part? Right across the street, there are these beautiful beaches with unique coquina rock formations, so if you want that coastal vibe for part of your st augustine engagement session, you can literally walk across the road and have a completely different backdrop. It's like getting three different locations in one spot, which is why we keep coming back here with our couples.
Vilano Beach Engagement Sessions
Vilano Beach is one of those spots we keep coming back to for engagement sessions because it really has everything you could want in one location. We love the charming retro buildings (The Magic Beach Hotel) that give your photos this cool, laid-back vibe, and then you've got these sweeping ocean views that are just incredible. A lot of our couples actually choose sunrise sessions here too - there's something magical about the Saint Augustine Lighthouse calling out in the background of your pictures. Whether you're going for sunset or sunrise, you can work with the rock jetty where the waves crash dramatically, or head over to the sand dunes with sea oats for something softer and more romantic.
Historic Downtown Saint Augustine Engagement Photos
Historic Downtown Saint Augustine is probably our most popular spot for our recently engaged couples, and honestly, it's easy to see why when you have this much historic architecture all within walking distance. We've photographed at Castillo de San Marcos with its old fortress walls, Flagler College with those stunning Spanish Renaissance buildings, and all along St. George Street with its charming cobblestone streets and historic storefronts. The Lightner Museum gives you these gorgeous Gilded Age backdrops, and then you can walk down to the bayfront for waterfront shots or catch the Bridge of Lions for something really iconic. What we love about doing an engagement session in downtown St. Augustine is that you can hit so many different historic looks all within walking distance of each other - it's like having centuries of beautiful architecture as your backdrop, and each spot has its own character and feel.
Anastasia State Park Beach Engagement Photography
Anastasia State Park Beach is one of our go-to spots for couples who want something more private and natural. These pristine beaches are beautiful and out of the way, so you won't have to worry about crowds of people in the background of your photos. What we really love about these beaches is that you've got miles and miles of dunes spotted with sea oats that create this beautiful, soft coastal backdrop - it's like having your own private piece of Florida coastline. Since it's located right on Anastasia Island, you don't even have to deal with crossing the bridge, which makes it super convenient. Plus, there's no permit required for engagement photography (something we always confirm before each session to make sure everything goes smoothly). If you want pristine sandy beaches without a lot of people in the background for your St. Augustine engagement session then this is the place.

Magnolia Street in St. Augustine offers a stunning setting for engagement photos, with its towering oak trees forming a natural canopy over the road. Engagement Session Planning Tips
Here are a couple of things that our past couples have mentioned to us:
- Sunrise is an excellent time for downtown portraits because the light is beautiful and the streets are quiet before the crowds arrive
- Sunset during weekdays is another strong option, though it can be quite early in winter months (around 5pm)
- We typically avoid downtown sessions at sunset on the first Friday of each month due to Art Walk foot traffic
- Spring and fall provide more comfortable weather if you prefer an afternoon session
- Many couples start their session at Magnolia Avenue and then move to Vilano Beach or the historic downtown district
- We always have a weather backup plan ready

We feel that rain can actually create striking images with the right preparation and approach—dramatic skies, interesting reflections, and intimate moments under umbrellas that aren't possible on sunny days... if that fits your vision. The key is having a solid plan, protecting equipment properly, and working with the weather instead of against it.

When should we schedule our engagement session?
We'll can send you a detailed wardrobe guide after booking, but here's the short version: choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Solid colors and simple patterns photograph beautifully. Avoid large logos or busy patterns.
What should we wear for our engagement photos?
Absolutely! We love incorporating meaningful props, and pets are always welcome (though we recommend having a friend help wrangle them). Just let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly and suggest the best locations for furry family members.
Can we bring props or include our pets?
Don't worry - this is totally normal! Most of our couples feel a bit awkward at first. We're experts at making you feel comfortable and will guide you through everything. We'll start with simple poses and gradually work up to more natural interactions. By the end, you'll forget we're even there!

When should we schedule our engagement session?
We recommend booking your engagement session 6-12 months before your wedding. This gives you plenty of time to use the photos for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and reception displays. Plus, it's a great way for us to get to know each other before your big day!

Do you require a contract and deposit?
We ask for a 50% deposit to secure your date. You can pay the remainder at your session or we can invoice you for the final amount when we send your sneak peek. We accept cash, check, credit card and electronic payments.
How does proposal photography coordination work?
We'll have a detailed planning call one or two weeks before your proposal to go over every detail. We'll discuss the exact location, timing, your partner's schedule, and any special elements you want to include. On the day of, we arrive early to scout positioning and will communicate via text leading up to the moment. We're experts at staying hidden while getting the perfect shots!
How discreet are you during the actual proposal?
Very! We use telephoto lenses to capture intimate moments from a distance, and we're skilled at blending into the environment. Your partner won't know we're there until after you've popped the question. We dress to blend in with the location and arrive early to find the perfect hidden vantage point.
What's the best time of day for a proposal in Saint Augustine?
Golden hour (1 hour before sunset) provides the most romantic lighting, but we can work with any time that fits your partner's schedule. Morning proposals at sunrise are also magical and tend to be more private. We'll help you choose the perfect timing based on your chosen location and your partner's routine.
What if it rains on our proposal day?
Saint Augustine weather can be unpredictable! If you are not excited about a romantic rain moment we always have backup indoor locations ready (like the covered areas at Flagler College or the Lightner Museum). We can also reschedule if severe weather threatens your special moment - your proposal is too important to leave to chance!

Absolutely! We've photographed hundreds of proposals and can offer advice on timing, positioning, what to say, and how to make the moment perfect. We know which locations offer the most privacy and the best backdrops for your specific vision.
