Jacksonville Zoo wedding venue is truly one of a kind — picture saying your vows with giraffes in the background. Or taking portraits in front of a Mayan temple with jaguars nearby. Or dancing under the stars near wildlife. Your guests will never forget it.

The property has several event spaces, each with its own feel. The Range of the Jaguar has its Mayan temple backdrop. The calm Asian Bamboo area is lush and green. There's a setting for every style.

Event Spaces:

  • Range of the Jaguar: Replica Mayan temple, fountains, and a stone stage for ceremonies or receptions (seats 200-250); jaguars, howler monkeys, anteaters, and capybaras on exhibit
  • Gardens at Trout River Plaza: Walled garden with river views and a columned fountain plaza; ceremonies or receptions (200-250)
  • Giraffe Overlook & Savanna Blooms: African-savanna garden and overlook for cocktail hours and gatherings, with giraffes in view
  • Asian Bamboo Gardens: Calm, lush bamboo setting
  • Land of the Tiger: After-hours only; tiger-viewing and cocktail space (up to 50-75)
  • Shaba Terrace & Samburu Room: Indoor/outdoor African-themed space

What Works Photographically Here

No two weddings here look alike, and that's the draw. The Range of the Jaguar offers a Mayan temple with a fountain - a backdrop you can't find anywhere else in Northeast Florida. When the jaguars move into frame, those become the photos couples share for years.

The Asian Bamboo area feels totally different - calm, green, and peaceful. The bamboo stays green year-round, so it works in any season. And the Giraffe Overlook offers something guests never forget: an actual giraffe in the background of your vows.

The variety within walking distance is what sets this place apart. A single portrait session can move from tropical greenery to wildlife exhibits to waterfront views at Trout River Plaza. Each spot has its own colors, light, and energy.

Best Photo Spots

Range of the Jaguar: A Mayan-inspired exhibit with a replica Lost Temple, tiered fountains, and a stone stage that works for ceremonies and receptions (seats 200-250). Jaguars, howler monkeys, anteaters, and capybaras are on exhibit nearby. The temple creates striking portraits unlike anywhere else.

Giraffe Overlook & Savanna Blooms: A raised overlook and African-savanna garden made for cocktail hours and gatherings, with giraffes in view. A scenic spot for candids and portraits— real giraffes might photobomb your shots.

Asian Bamboo Landscape: Lush bamboo creates a calm, peaceful feel. The green backdrop is timeless and looks great in any light.

Land of the Tiger: Available after the Zoo's regular hours only. A "Skywalk" view area and a climate-controlled tiger viewing building hold up to 50 (viewing building) or 75 for a cocktail hour, with tigers potentially visible during your celebration.

Gardens at Trout River Plaza: A partially walled garden with Trout River views, a central fountain topped by an anhinga sculpture, and thirteen Grecian-style columns. It converts for ceremonies or receptions (200-250 guests).

Shaba Terrace & Samburu Room: Indoor/outdoor options with African-themed decor. The covered spaces work as a weather backup while keeping that unique feel.

Tips From Your Photographers

Wildlife Adds Magic (and Unpredictability): The animals are the star of the show, but they do their own thing. We'll have backup spots ready if your favorite one decides to hide.

After-Hours is Worth It: Evening events mean quieter grounds and sometimes more action from the animals. The Land of the Tiger is only open after hours and is well worth it.

Coordinate With the On-Site Team: The property has safety rules for the animals. We work with their team to get great shots while staying within those rules.

Embrace the Uniqueness: This isn't a traditional setting - that's the point! Lean into the adventure. A giraffe in your photos is something your guests will never forget.

Multiple Spaces, Many Options: The property has many layout options for your vows and party. Tour the spaces in person to find the ones that feel right.

Planning Your Timeline

We don't publish generic timelines. They're useless without knowing your date. Here's why:

December 5:30 PM sunset
June 8:30 PM sunset

A 5pm ceremony works great in summer. In winter, it means dark portraits. Your timeline must match your actual date and what matters most to you.

Lighting & Golden Hour

Natural light varies throughout the day. We recommend discussing specific timing based on your chosen space and time of year. Note: music curfew at Midnight (Fri/Sat), 11pm (Sun).

Time for Photos

We recommend 45-60 minutes for portraits at Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, covering the main event area, gathering space, and grounds.

Timeline Strategies

Sunset Portraits

Want golden hour magic? We work backwards from sunset. End the ceremony 60-90 minutes before. That gives time for family photos, couple portraits, and the best light.

Brunch or Daytime

Morning ceremonies and daytime receptions mean good natural light all day. Great for summer when afternoons get warm.
