4010 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, FL 32084
Online appointment booking

Both partners must appear in person with valid photo ID. Bring your driver's license or passport. If you've been married before, you'll need to know the date, city, and state of the divorce or death certificate information.

Pro tip: Book your appointment online before you arrive. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are faster. The office is about 15 minutes from downtown St. Augustine.

*Florida residents can waive the 3-day waiting period by completing a premarital preparation course. This also reduces the license fee to $61.00.

Same-Day Ceremonies

The Clerk's office offers civil ceremonies for $30.00. It's simple, quick, and legal. Many couples get their license and ceremony done in the same appointment, then head out for photos at one of St. Augustine's beautiful locations.

How Much Does It Cost to Elope in St. Augustine?

One of the biggest advantages of eloping: it costs a fraction of a traditional wedding. Here's a realistic breakdown of what couples typically spend:

Item Budget Mid-Range All-Inclusive
Marriage License $93 $93 $93
Officiant $30 (clerk) $150-250 $200-350
Photography $450 (30 min) $650 (1 hr) $1,000-1,300
Flowers $50-100 $150-250 $250-400
Hair & Makeup DIY $200-300 $300-450
Permits (if needed) $0-50 $50-100 $50-100

Not included above: Attire, rings, accommodations, dinner, travel. These vary widely based on your preferences.

Budget tip: A courthouse ceremony + 30 minutes of portraits can be done for under $700. Add a nice dinner and you've had an unforgettable day for less than most couples spend on flowers alone.

Want someone to handle it all? We offer an all-inclusive elopement package that includes photography, officiant (Jill is ordained), florals, permits, and day-of coordination—so you can focus on each other instead of logistics. Learn about our all-inclusive package →

Best Time of Year to Elope

St. Augustine is a year-round destination, but each season has its own character. Here's what to expect:

Spring (March - May)

Comfortable temperatures, lower humidity, blooming flowers throughout downtown. Our busiest season for elopements.

+ Perfect weather, green landscapes

- Book early; popular dates fill fast

Summer (June - August)

Hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms almost daily. Morning or sunset ceremonies work best.

+ Dramatic skies, fewer tourists

- Heat, afternoon storms (plan accordingly)

Fall (September - November)

Hurricane season (technically) but often beautiful. October and November are ideal. Nights of Lights begins mid-November.

+ Great weather, magical lighting

- Early fall still warm; occasional storms

Winter (December - February)

Mild temperatures (50s-70s), occasional cool fronts. Nights of Lights runs through January 31.

+ Cooler weather, festive atmosphere

- Pack layers; can get chilly at sunset

Nights of Lights (November - January)

St. Augustine's Nights of Lights festival transforms downtown into three million white lights. Elopements during this time are magical—picture your ceremony with the Lightner Museum glowing behind you, or portraits on St. George Street with twinkling lights overhead.

Weather note: Florida weather can be unpredictable. We've had gorgeous December days and stormy April evenings. The good news? Afternoon storms typically pass within 30-60 minutes, and some of our best light happens right after.

Best Time of Day for Photos

Timing matters for photography. Here's what works best in St. Augustine:

Golden Hour (Sunset)

The most popular choice. Warm, glowing light that makes everything look dreamy. Start your ceremony 1-2 hours before sunset, then use golden hour for portraits.

Sunrise

Soft, peaceful light and empty beaches. You'll have St. Augustine Beach practically to yourselves. The trade-off: early wake-up call, and hair/makeup needs to start even earlier.

Midday

Not ideal for outdoor portraits (harsh shadows), but works well for shaded locations: courtyards, covered patios, under Spanish moss. Also perfect for indoor venues or overcast days.

Timing tip: Golden hour times change throughout the year. In summer, sunset is around 8:30pm; in winter, it's closer to 5:30pm. We'll give you exact times when planning your elopement so you don't miss the best light.

Beaches & State Parks

Florida beach elopements are classic for a reason. Here's what you need to know about the St. Augustine area beaches:

St. Augustine Beach

The most accessible option—public parking, wide sand, and that classic Florida coastline. No permit required for small ceremonies. The pier area can get crowded; head north or south for more privacy.

Vilano Beach

Quieter than St. Augustine Beach with fewer tourists. Rocky outcroppings at low tide add visual interest. Great sunrise location.

Crescent Beach

15 minutes south, significantly less crowded. Wide beaches, minimal development, and a peaceful vibe. Worth the drive for privacy.

Fort Mose Historic State Park

Peaceful trails, boardwalks over the marsh, and deep historical significance as the first free Black settlement in the U.S.

📍 15 Fort Mose Trail | Permit required for ceremonies

Tide tip: For beach ceremonies, check the tide charts. Low tide gives you more sand to work with; high tide can push you right up against the dunes. We always check tides when planning your timeline.

When to Book

2-3 months in advance gives you the best selection of dates and times. That said, we've photographed same-week elopements when our schedule allows. Peak season (October-May) books faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

For small ceremonies (under 25 guests) at most public downtown locations, no permit is needed. State parks like Anastasia and Washington Oaks require permits ($50-100). Private venues handle their own permitting. Beach ceremonies on public beaches don't require permits for small groups.
2-3 months is ideal for photographers and venues during peak season (October-May). For summer elopements or weekday ceremonies, shorter notice often works. Popular B&B packages should be booked 3-4 months ahead, especially for holiday weekends or Nights of Lights season.
October and April are our favorites: comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and beautiful light. November through January offers the magical Nights of Lights festival. Summer works but expect heat, humidity, and afternoon storms (plan for morning or sunset ceremonies).
Yes! Florida requires two witnesses, but your photographer and officiant can sign. Many couples elope with just the two of them plus vendors—it's romantic and perfectly legal.
The St. Johns County Clerk's office offers civil ceremonies for $30. Get your license and have the ceremony in one visit, then head to the bayfront or beach for photos. It's the fastest, most affordable way to elope in St. Augustine.
No. Out-of-state residents can get their Florida marriage license and marry the same day. Florida residents have a 3-day waiting period unless they complete a premarital preparation course.
A budget elopement (courthouse + portraits) can be done for under $700. Mid-range elopements with a private officiant, 1-2 hours of photography, and flowers typically run $1,300-$1,600. All-inclusive packages with getting-ready coverage and extended photography range from $1,800-$2,700.
Florida afternoon storms usually pass in 30-60 minutes, and the light right after can be spectacular. We always have backup plans: covered courtyards downtown, indoor venues, or we can shift timing. Some of our best photos have come from rainy days!
